New Tower Expansion
In May 2013 the University of Colorado Hospital opened a new Critical Care Tower. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit was one of the units to make the move to the New Tower. This required months of planning and teaching to get our staff ready for the move. I was asked by my manager to be a part of a committee whose purpose would be to aid management in planning the finer details, and to help educate staff. As a member of this committee I was involved in monthly meetings starting about one year before the actual move. I was a team leader in educating staff on our new GE patient monitoring system, which included attending special Super User education classes, and then using that information to lead individual teaching seminars for our own staff. I was also involved in helping staff integrate and feel comfortable on our new unit. This entailed leading scenarios referred to as a "Day In The Life" which involved staff walking through everyday situations using new equipment in a new space. Individual learning was measured based on self evaluations, and further individual mentoring was implemented for those who still needed time to feel confident before the move.
